Grass Pokemon

Grass pokemon are generally not my favorite type, however I thnk they may be a bit more useful than they were in G/S. Grass poison now takes normal damage from bug. Ice has become less common and many electrics wave water attacks to beat ground types and some grasses could use either earthquake or a ground type hidden power to take out electrics and fires.

Pure Grass Pokemon

Tangela
Tangela took a hit in special defense. It's not the wall it once was but it can get amnesia so in a sense it was balanced. Flail, Confusion, Mega Drain, Reflect, Amnesia can be gotten through breeding.
Chikorita
Bred Moves: Vine Whip, Leech Seed, Counter, Ancientpower, Flail
Bayleef
Meganimum
Probably the only grass type I ever liked. It's a good one and it can get earthquake and ancient power and hel alleviate it's fire weakness. Doesn't have the best attack however but will be able to get swords dance through breeding in Crystal.

Bulbasaur
Bred Moves:Light Screen, Skull Bash, Safeguard, Charm, Razor Wind, Petal Dance
Ivysaur
Venusaur
As a starter pokemon it has fairly good all around stats but nothing to write home about.
Oddish
Bred Moves:Swords Dance, Razor Leaf, Flail, Synthesis, Charm
Gloom
Vileplume
Vileplume has lower attack than Victreebel but has much higher special and better defense. In G/S virtually all grass moves can be bred onto other grass pokemon so moves are no longer a limitation to using Vileplume. It's special defense dropped just a little from R/B/Y.
Bellossum
The same as vileplume minus the poison type and with special attack and defense stats the reverse of Vileplume's.
Bellsprout
Bred Moves:Swords Dance, Encore, Reflect, Synthesis, Leech Life
Weepinbell
Victreebel

Victreebel has higher attack and lower special than vileplume. It's defense and speed are pretty bad. Plus it's special defense dropped a LOT. Use care when using Victreebel. However it is among the higest attackers in the game and it can get swords dance so . . . It's begging to be exploited.

Bred Moves: False Swipe, Screech, Counter, Psybeam, Faint attack, Sweet Scent, Light Screen, Pursuit
Parasect

Parasect unfortunately suffers from it's type being doubly weak to both flying and fire which are two common types. It learns giga drain at level 55.
Exeggcute
Bred Moves: Synthesis, Moonlight, Reflect, Mega Drain, Ancientpower
Exeggutor

With the advent of better bugs Exeggutor's double weakness to them becomes more of a liability add in weakness to fire and flying plus a NASTY slash in special defense and exeggutor is nowhere near the power it once was. Still useable but with caution.

Jumpluff
Kind of a wierd grass type. Grass flying. Fast but with little attacking stats.
Sunkern
Bred Moves:
Sunflora
Slow but with massive special attack and pretty good special defense. Other stats are more mediocre and doesn't learn and of the useful grass powders.
Celebi
It's basically a G/S version of mew. Grass psychic makes it fear bug types but it can get moves that few other pokemon can like heal bell and baton pass. Rumored to be catchable in Pokemon Crystal. If I ever get one I'll use it!
